Freudentheil, Wilhelm Nicholas

Freudentheil, Wilhelm Nicholas a Lutheran theologian of Germany, was born at Stade, in Hanover, June 5, 1771. He studied at Gottingen; was in 1792 professor of literature and history at Zelle; in 1796 subrector; in 1805 con-rector; in 1809 rector at Stade; in 1816 was called as deacon to Hamburg; in 1828 was pastor at the Chuch of the Holy Ghost, and was honored in 1841 by his alma mater with the theological doctorate. He died March 7, 1853. Besides his Commentatio de Codiae sacro more, etc. (Gottingen, 1791), he contributed some fine specimens to German hymnology. See Winer, Handbuch der theol.
