Fredol, Berenger De

Fredol, Berenger De (called the Elder), a French prelate, was born at the chateau de la Vdrune about 1250; became successively canon at Bdziers, Narbonne, and Aix, bishop of Beziers, October 28, 1294, and cardinal in 1305. He was employed by the pope in several literary and diplomatic functions, and died at Avignon, June 13, 1323, leaving a few works on canon law, for which see Hoefer, Nouv. Biog. Generale, s.v.
