Duty
Duty (דָּבָר, dabar, lit. a word or matter; Gr. ὀφείλω, to owe). For "duty of marriage" (עוֹנָה, onah', dwelling together, Ex 21:10; used in the Talmud for connubial right; i.q., ἡ ὀφειλομένη εὔνοια, "due benevolence," 1Co 7:3), SEE COHABITATION. For "the duty of a husband's brother" (יָבִס, yabas', De 25; De 5; De 7, to marry a deceased brother's childless wife, Ge 38:8), SEE LEVIRATE LAW. SEE ETHICS.
