Bischop (or Biskop) Johann Van
Bischop (Or Biskop) Johann Van a Dutch designer and engraver, was born at the Hague in 1646. He excelled in copying the pictures of the best masters, in small colored drawings. His principal work was a set of prints for a book, of which the first edition, published by Bischop, contains 102 plates; the second, published by Nic. Visscher, contains 113 plates. It is entitled, Paradigmata Graphices Variorum Artiphicum, Tabulis Eneis, pars 1, et 2 (Hague, 167 fol.). The following are some of his principal prints: Christ and the Samaritan Woman; Joseph distributing Corn to the Egyptians; The Martyrdom of St. Lawrence. See Spooner, Biog.
