Apelles (3)

Apelles a monk and 'priest near Acoris, in the Heptanomis, in the 4th century. He had been a smith, and a legend is related of his chasing Satan with a red- hot iron. He was famous for working many reputed miracles. See Niceph. Hist. 11:34; Sozomen, Hist. 6:28.
