Althofer, Christoph

Althofer, Christoph a Lutheran theologian of Germany, was born Nov. 9, 1606, at Hersbruck. He studied at Altdorf, Wittenberg, Leipsic, and Jena. In 1629 he was called as professor of theology and deacon to Altdorf, but resigned his deanery in 1637. In 1639 the Jena University made him doctor of divinity, and in 1644 he was appointed general superintendent at Culmbach, where he died, May 11, 1660. A catalogue of his theological works, comprising a commentary on the Pauline epistles, a Gospel harmony, polemical writings against Calvinists and Catholics, sermons, etc., is given by Zeltner, Bibl.
