Agion
Agion or rather HAGION (ἃγιον or ἃγιον ἁγίων, the holy or the most holy place). SEE TEMPLE. A name anciently given to the inner portion of the church, which was appropriated to the clergy. SEE ADYTUM. It was so called because the most sacred services, especially the consecration of the Eucharist, were performed within it. This place had various names. SEE BEMA.
