Zachalios

Zachalios an ancient Babylonish writer, is mentioned by Pliny (Hist. Nat. 37:10) as the author of a book on gems and their magical powers, which was dedicated to the king Mithridates. "It was evidently a writing belonging to that Graeco-Babylonian literature which was so widely developed during the centuries bordering on the Christian aera, and which had the same connection with the real Chaldaean doctrines as the Grecian literature of the hermetical books had with the doctrine of ancient Egypt" (Lenormont, Chaldaean Magic, page 176).
