Winecup
Wine-cup
(כּוֹס הִיִּיַן, cup of the wine). Wine, or the cup in which it is contained, often represents in Scriptutre the anger of God: "Thou hast made us drink the wine of astonishment" (Ps 60:3). "In the hand of the Lord there is a cup, and the wine is red; it is full of mixture, and he poureth out of the same. But the dregs thereof all the wicked shall wring them out and drink them " (Ps 75:8). The Lord says to Jeremiah (Jer 25:15), "Take the wine-cup of this fury at my hand, and cause all the nations to whom I send thee to drink it." Elegant forms of drinking-cups are represented on the Assyrian and Egyptian monuments. SEE CUP.
