Wachter, Johann

Wachter, Johann a Protestant theologian of Germany, was born in 1768. In 1807 he was appointed evangelical member of consistory and superintendent at Vienna; in 1819 he became director of the Protestant Theological Lutheran Seminary; and died April 26, 1827. In connection with K. Cleunmann, he published Allgem. prakt. Bibliothek für Prediger u. Schulmdinner (Vienna, 1801-3, 2 vols.). His own Sermons were published after his death by some friends (ibid. 1828, 2 vols.). See Winer, Handb. der theol. Literatur, 2, 37, 143. (B. P.)
