Van Hovenbergh, Eggo Tonkens
Van Hovenbergh, Eggo Tonkens a Dutch minister of the Reformed Church. He was ordained at Amsterdam, April 1, 1743; and preached at Suirinam, South America, 1743-49. On his way back from Surinam to Holland in 1749 he stopped at New York, where he would have received a call from the consistory but for the unsatisfactory position ho took concerning the Church and ministry of New York. He preached at Livingston Manor and Claverack, N.Y., 1749-56 and at Rhinebeck Flats, 1756-64, when he was suspended, but continued to preach until 1767. See Corwin, Manual of the Ref. Church in America, s.v.
