Tenney, Asa Peaslee

Tenney, Asa Peaslee a Congregational minister, was born in Corinth, Vt., Feb. 14,1801. He worked at an anvil in Haverhill, N.H.; studied theology with Rev. Grant Powers and President Tyler of Dartmouth College; preached his first sermon in father Goddard's meeting-house in Norwich, Vt.; and when twenty-seven years old took a five years commission under the New Hampshire Missionary Society, laboring in Hebron and Groton. In March, 1833, he became first pastor of the Congregational Church in Concord (West), N. H., where he died, March 1, 1867. Mr. Tenney was original, eloquent, and a mighty revivalist. He bad wonderful knowledge of the Bible and human, nature, and was a prodigious worker, his sermons for over thirty-four years averaging more than four a week.
