Stock, Christian, a celebrated scholar and Orientalist, was born at Hamburg, Germany, in 1672, became a professor at Jena in 1717, and died in 1733, with a very high reputation, especially for Oriental literature. The chief of his works are, Disputationes de Poenis Hebroeorum Capitalibus: — Clavis Linguoe Sanctoe Veteris Testamenti: — Clavis Linuoe Sanctoe Novi Testamenti. The last two, which are a Hebrew and a Greek lexicon, have been much approved, have gone through several editions, and have received improvements and additions.
