Stimula, the name of Semele, according to the pronunciation of the Romans (Livy, 39, 12; Augustine, De Civ. Dei, 4, 16; Ovid, Fast. 6, 503 ). Others take the name to designate a goddess who excites men to undertake all manner of bold enterprises (Augustine, De Civ. Dei, 4, 11).
