Steger, Benedict Stephan

Steger, Benedict Stephan, a Lutheran minister, was born at Nuremberg, April 9, 1807. He studied at Erlangen and Berlin. His first ministerial duties he performed in his native place. In 1835 he was appointed second preacher at Hof, and in 1843 be was called to his native place as third preacher of St. AEgidius's, as which he labored for thirty-three years. He died Feb. 9,1876. Besides sermons and a catechetical manual, he published Die protestantischen Missionen und deren gesegnetes Wirken (Hof, 1844-50, 3 pts.), giving a history of the Protestant Missions till the first half of this century.
