Stead, William D

Stead, William D., a Methodist Episcopal minister, was born in the parish of Brayton, Yorkshire, England, in 1799. He emigrated to the United States when three years old, was converted in his nineteenth year, admitted on trial in the New York Conference in 1832, and appointed to Johnstown Circuit. He subsequently filled the following appointments: Lansingburg and Waterford, Sand Lake, Pittstown, New Lebanon, Chatham, and Chester. He died Jan. 6, 1844. He was characterized by great fidelity and sobriety; was a good preacher, remarkable for simplicity and ardor, and a most excellent pastor. See Minutes of Annual Conferences, 3, 582.
