Smith, Daniel (1)
Smith, Daniel (1), a minister of the Methodist Episcopal Church, was born in Philadelphia in 1769. Although his early educational advantages were small, he had a great taste for knowledge, and acquired a considerable stock of useful information. He was admitted into the travelling connection in 1789, and in 1790 was appointed to Boston with Jesse Lee. In 1791 he was admitted into full connection by the conference. In 1794 Mr. Smith located, and continued in that relation till the close of his life. He settled in New York city, and engaged to some extent in secular business; but continued in the vigorous exercise of his ministry till the close of life. He died Oct. 23, 1815.
