Sicard, Roch Ambroise Cucurron,
abbe of, a French philanthropist and educator, was born at Foussenet, near Toulouse, Sept. 20, 1742, and succeeded the abbe L'lpee as master of the deaf-and-dumb school in Paris in 1789. He had two narrow escapes during the Revolution, at which epoch he joined Jauffret in publishing the Religious, Political, and Literary Annals of France. He wrote several works on the interesting subject which chiefly occupied his attention, and in 1800 established a printing-press for the use of his scholars. .He died in 1822. See Hoefer, Nouv. Biog.
