Shaw, John Knox

Shaw, John Knox, a minister of the Methodist Episcopal Church, was born in Ireland, April 12, 1800. but while an infant was brought to Washington County, N.Y. He was licensed to preach Nov. 19, 1824, and was received on trial in the Philadelphia Conference in 1825. His active ministerial life lasted until 1858, during which he occupied many important stations, and also served as presiding elder. At the division of the Philadelphia Conference, he became a member of the Newark Conference. He took an active part in the founding of the Pennington Seminary, Pennington, N.J., of which he was a trustee at the time of his death. He died at Newark, N.J., Oct. 4, 1858.
