Scovel, Sylvester, D.D.
a Presbyterian minister, was born at Peru, Massachusetts, March 3, 1796. He graduated from Williams College in 1822, and studied two years at Princeton Theological Seminary; labored as a missionary on the Delaware River; was pastor at Woodbury, N.J., in 1825; supply at Norristown, Pennsylvania, in 1828; in Ohio from 1833 to 1836; agent of domestic missions until 1846; and president of Hanover College, Indiana, until his death, July 4, 1849.
