Schnorr (Von Carolsfeld), Julius
Schnorr (von Carolsfeld), Julius a famous painter, and, besides Cornelius, Overbeck, and Veit, one of the oldest and most distinguished representatives of Christian painting of modern times, was born in 1794 at Leipsic, and educated at Dresden. In 1817 Schnorr went to Italy, was in 1846 appointed director of the picture gallery at Dresden, and died May 24, 1872. He published, Die Bibel in Bildern (Leipsic, 1860): — Biblia Sacra Tabulis Illustrata, etc. (1855-60). (B.P.)
