Rowley, George, D.D.

an English educator and divine, was born in 1782, and educated at University College, Oxford, of which he became successively fellow, tutor, and public examiner. In 1821 he was elected to the mastership of his college, and in 1832 was appointed to the vice-chancellorship of the University of Oxford; which he held till his death, October 5, 1836. In his official duties he was noted for his punctuality and decision; and in private life he was distinguished for kindness of disposition and unselfishness of character. See (Lond.)
