Redford, George, D.D.

an English Congregational minister, was born in London Sept. 27,1785, and was educated at Hoxton College and the University of Glasgow. His first settlement as a minister was at Uxbridge, where he remained fourteen years. In 1825 he became pastor of the Congregational church at Worcester. In 1855 he was thrown from his carriage, and suffered a nervous shock from which he never recovered. He retired to Edgebaston, near Birmingham, and his congregation at Worcester allowed him £100 per annum. He died May 20, 1860. He was a man of great industry and talent. Faithful in his pastoral work to a remarkable degree, he gave himself largely to literature. He was for some years editor of the Congregational Magazine, and was a frequent contributor to the Eclectic and to the British Quarterly Review.
