President
President (סָרִך, sarák, or סָרכָ‹, sareka; Sept. τακτικός; Vulg. princeps), only used in Daniel 6; the Chaldee equivalent for Hebrew shotêr, probably from Sara, Zend. a "head" (see Strabo, 11:331). Σαραπάρας -κεφαλοτόμος is connected with the Sanskrit siras or çiras, and is traced in Sargon and other words (Eichhoff, Vergl. Spr. p. 129, 415; see Her. 3, 89, where he calls satrap a Persian word). — Smith. SEE GOVERNOR.
