Pogatschar, Johannes

Pogatschar, Johannes prince bishop of Laybach, was born at Brezov, January 22, 1811. From 1838 to 1852 he occupied the theological chair at the Laybach Theological Seminary, was made prince bishop in 1875, and died January 25, 1884. For many years he edited the Laybbach Church Gazette, and in the ecclesiastico-political affairs he sided with the Austrian government in behalf of the new school-laws. (B.P.)
