Palaeologus

Palaeologus is the name of an illustrious Byzantine family, which first appears in history about the 11th century, and is in many of its representatives intimately connected with the ecclesiastical history of the Middle Ages. The family attained to imperial dignity in the person of Michael Palceologus (q.v.). SEE EASTERN CHURCH.
