Oglesby, Joseph
Oglesby, Joseph, a pioneer preacher of the Methodist Episcopal Church, who flourished near the opening of this century, was appointed a missionary in Illinois in 1804. He was the first Methodist who ever preached in that part of the country. He traveled over the vast territory, as it was at that time, to the extreme settlements, and was always greeted with pleasure by the pioneer settlers. See Stevens, Hist. of the 2. E. Church, 4:358.
