Mccurdy, John

Mccurdy, John a minister of the Methodist Episcopal Church South, was born in Elbert County, Ga., July 10, 1800; in 1825 he professed religion, and joined the Methodist Episcopal Church; in 1830 was licensed to preach, and in 1843 was admitted into the Tennessee Annual Conference. From that time till his death he labored faithfully on various circuits and missions. Much of his time was devoted to missionary work among the colored people. In this field he was very successful. For the last several years of his life his health was feeble, and he was on the supernumerary and superannuated lists. He died in Williamson County, Tenn., Aug. 17, 1870. Mr. McCurdy "was a man of sound judgment, good common-sense, and deep and uniform piety. He lived above reproach, and died honored by all who knew him." — Conference Minutes M. E. Ch.
