Mccabe, Edward
McCabe, Edward a Roman Catholic prelate, was born in Dublin in 1816. In 1856 he was appointed parish priest of St. Nicholas, one of the poorest and most populouls localities in Dublin. Archbishop Cullen appointed him one of his vicars-general in 1863, transferring him to the important parish of Kingstown. In 1877 Dr. McCabe, as bishop of Gadara in partibus, was appointed bishop-auxiliary. He was confirmed cardinal by the pope, March 24, 1879, and died February 10, 1885.
