Lyman, Joseph

Lyman, Joseph D.D., a Congregational minister, was born April 14, 1749, at Lebanon, Conn. He graduated at Yale College in 1767, was chosen tutor in 1770, in which position he remained two years, and was installed pastor in Hatfield, Mass., March 4, 1772, where he died March 27, 1828. He was elected president of the Hampshire Miss. Society in 1812, vice-president of the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions in 1819, and president in 1823.
