Lyman, Chester Smith

Lyman, Chester Smith an American educator, was born at Manchester, Connecticut, January 13, 1814. Graduating from Yale College in 1837, and the Theological Seminary in 1842, he preached for two, years, but his health prevented his continuance in the ministry. In 1859 he became professor. of mechanics and physics in the Scientific School at New Haven; in 1871 of astronomy and physics; in 1884 of astronomy, in 1889 emeritus professor. He died January 29, 1890. See (Am.) Cong. Year-book, 1891.
