Loftus, William Kennett
Loftus, William Kennett an English archaeologist, was born at Rye in 1820. He was a zealous traveler and discoverer, and explored the sites of several ancient cities on the Euphrates and Tigris. In 1857 he published a work entitled Travels and Researches in Chaldea and Susiana; also an account of Some Excavations at Warka, the Erech of Nimrod, and Shushan, the Palace of Esther, in 1849-52.
