Lapacci, Bartolommeo

Lapacci, Bartolommeo an Italian prelate, was born about 1396 at Florence. He was admitted to the Dominican order, received, in 1427, the diploma of doctor, and was, at the Council of Florence, one of the ten theologians who maintained the articles of union of the Greek with the Latin Church. Pope Eugenius IV recompensed him for this service by appointing him, in 1439, master of the sacred palace in place of Torquemada, who was made cardinal. Being sent to Greece in 1443, in company with F. Condelmerio, he became bishop of Argoli. Two years later he was at Constantinople, where he disputed publicly with Mark of Ephesus. At this time he occupied the see of Caron, and, abandoning it when the Turks became masters of the city, he retired to Florence, where he died, June 21, 1466.
