Lacroix (De Chevrieres), Jean Baptiste De
Lacroix (De Chevrieres), Jean Baptiste de a French prelate, belonged at first to the order of the Knights of Malta, was afterwards abbot of Gimont, in the diocese of Auch, and embarked in 1683 for Canada, to preach to the Indians. He was consecrated bishop of Quebec while on a visit to Paris in 1688. He returned soon afterwards to Canada, where he built a hospital, in which he died, December 26, 1727.
