La Bruyere, Stephen De
La Bruyere, Stephen De a French prelate, was elected bishop of Nantes some time before 1213, and was involved in a contest with Peter Mauclerc, duke of Brittany, on the privileges of the clergy, which resulted in the bishop's forcible expulsion from his diocese in 1219. He withdrew to Rome, but after some months returned to his functions, and died at Nantes, February 8, 1227. See Hoefer, Nouv. Biog. Generale, s.v.
