Klaproth, Heinrich Julius
Klaproth, Heinrich Julius a German Orientalist, was born in Berlin, October 11, 1783. In 1802 he published, Asiatisches Magazin, and was made adjunct to the academy for Asiatic languages at St. Petersburg: — Reise in den Kautkasus und Georgien in den Jahren 1807 und 1808 (Halle, 1812-14, 2 volumes; transl. into French, Paris, 1823). In 1812 he left the Russian civil service, went in 1814 to Italy, in 1815 to Paris, where he was made professor of the languages of Asia in 1816. He died August 20, 1835.
