John of Bassora

John Of Bassora is the name of a prelate of the Eastern Church who flourished at Bassora, the ancient Bostra, from A.D. 617-650, after whom one of the liturgies of the Oriental Church is named. He was formerly supposed to be the author of it, but Neale thinks it of later date, and supposes it had its origin in the northern parts of Arabia. See Neale, Hist. of East. Church, Introd. p. 328 (6).
