Imna and Imnah

Im'na and Im'nah the name of several men, of different form in the original, which is not accurately observed in the English Version.

1. Hebrew YIMNA' (םיַמנָע restrainer; Sept. Ι᾿μανά, Vulg. Jemnna, Auth. Vers. "Irmna"), one of the sons apparently of Helem, the brother of Shamer, a descendant of Asher, but at what distance is not clear (1Ch 7:35). B.C. prob. cir. 1618. SEE HOTHAM.

2. Hebrew YIMNAH' , fortunate; Sept. in Ge 46:17, Ι᾿εμνά, Vulg. Jemna, Auth. Vers. "Jimnah;" in Nu 26:44, Ι᾿αμίν and Ι᾿αμινί, Jemnsa and Jemnaitce, "Jimna" and "Jimnites;" in 1Ch 7:30, Ι᾿εμνά, Jemna, "Imnah"), the first-named of the sons of Asher, and founder of a family who bore his name. B. C. 1874.

3. (Same Hebrew name as last; Sept. Ι᾿εμνά, Vulg. Jemnta, Auth.Vers. "Imnah'). The father of Kore, which latter was the Levite in charge of the east gate of the Temple, and appointed by Hezekiah over the free-will offerings (2Ch 31:14). B. C. 726.
