Hesse, Nicolas August
Hesse, Nicolas August a French painter, was born in Paris, August 28, 1795. He studied under baron Gros at Paris, and then went to Rome, Where he gained the grand prize in 1868. He acquired celebrity by his religious paintings, which may be found in various churches. He succeeded Delacroix in the Academy of Fine Arts in 1863, and died June 14, 1869.
