Hanuman

Hanuman the ape-god of the Hindus, son of Pavan, lord of the winds. There is a reference to Hanuman in the Ramayana (q.v.), in which the monkey chief is introduced as heading the natives of India, who had come to the assistance of Rama. In memory of this service a small pagoda is erected to his honor in the temples of Vishnu.
