Hale, John
Hale, John a Congregational minister, was born June 3, 1636, in Charlestown, Mass. He graduated at Harvard College in 1657, and was ordained first pastor of the newly formed Church at Beverley, Sept. 20,1667, where he remained until his death, May 15, 1700. He published an Election Sermon (1684), and A modest Inquiry into the Nature of Witchcraft, and how Persons guilty of that Crime may be convicted, and the Means used for their Discovery discussed, both negatively and affirmatively, according to Scripture and Experience (18mo, 1697). — Sprague, Annals, 1, 168.
