Gonzaga, Sigismondo De
Gonzaga, Sigismondo de an Italian captain and cardinal, was born in the second part of the 15th century. In his military career he distinguished himself as a clever general. In 1505 he was made cardinal by Julius II, whom he defended with considerable energy against his numerous enemies. In 1511 he was appointed bishop of Mantua, and died there in 1525. See Hoefer, Nouv.
