Gasser, Vincent
Gasser, Vincent a Roman Catholic prelate, was born in the Tyrol in 1809. In 1836 he was professor of theology at Brixen, member of parliament in 1848, bishop of Brixen in 1856, and prince-bishop in 1859. He died in 1879. He was the head of the Tvrolese Ultramontanists, and allowed the Jesuits to use their influence in the universities and schools. (B.P.)
