Gabael

Gab'ael (Γαβαήλ v.r. Γαμαήλ; Vulg. Gabelus), the name of two persons in the Apocrypha.

1. An ancestor of Tobit (Tobit 1:1). 2. A poor Jew (Tobit 1:17, Vulg.) of "Rages in Media," to whom Tobias lent (Vulg. sub chirographo dedit) ten talents of silver, which Gabael afterwards faithfully restored to Tobias in the time of Tobit's distress (Tobit 1:14; 4:1, 20; 5:6, 9; 10:2). — Smith, s.v.
