Exdcatacceli

Exdcatacceli a name given to several officers of the Church at Constantinople, high in authority, and in public assemblies taking precedence of the bishops. Originally they were priests, but afterwards only deacons. The college of the exocatacaeli corresponded to the college of cardinals (q.v.) at Rome.
