Escalante, Juan Antonio
Escalante, Juan Antonio a reputable Spanish historical painter, was born at Cordova in 1630, and studied under Francisco Rizi. There are a number of his works in the churches of Madrid, which are highly praised, among which is a fine picture of St. Catharine, in San Miguel; and an altar-piece representing The Dead Christ, with other figures, in the Church of Espiritu Santo.
