Engelbrechtsen (or Engelberts), Cornelis
Engelbrechtsen (or Engelberts), Cornelis an old Dutch painter, was born at Leyden in 1468, and studied the works of Hans van Eyck. The following are some of his noted pieces: The Taking down from the Cross; Abraham about to Sacrifice Isaac; Scenes from the Life of the Virgin. His best work, however, was an altar-piece in the Church of St. Peter, at Leyden, representing the Adoration of the Lamb, as described in the Apocalypse. He died at Leyden in 1533. See Spooner, Biog.
