Du Bartas, Guillaume De Salluste

Du Bartas, Guillaume De Salluste, a French Protestant poet of the sixteenth century, born about 1544, near Auch, in France; died 1590. His poem on the Creation obtained so great celebrity that in the course of six years more than thirty editions of the first "Semaine" were published. It was translated into Latin, Italian, Spanish, German, and English. The English version is entitled Du Bartas, his Divine Weekes and Workes, translated by J. Sylvester (London 1641, fol.).
