Davies, John (1), DD.
a Welsh clergyman and antiquary, was born in the latter part of the 16th century in Denbighshire, and educated by William Morgan, afterwards bishop of St. Asaph, and at Jesus College, Oxford. He was rector of Malloyd, in Merionethshire, and canon of St. Asaph. He was a fine Greek and Hebrew scholar. The time of his death is unknown. His works are, Antiquae Linguae Britannica (1621, 8vo): — Dictionarium Latino- Britannicum. He also assisted in translating the Bible into Welsh, in that correct edition which came out in 1620.
