Datta (or Dattatreya), an incarnation of a portion of Vishnu, and therefore venerated by the Vaishnavas (q.v.). He was also eminent for his practice of the Yoga, and hence is held in high estimation by the Yogis (q.v.). Gardner, Faiths of the World, s.v.
